Regional workshops “Library as Community Information Center”

Burgas, Razgrad, Silistra
Goals:
- to present the American-Bulgaria Library Exchange project (ABLE);
- to introduce the concept of transforming the Bulgarian public
libraries into community information centers;
- to offer opportunity for discussions and sharing experience.
Main
topics:
- The project “Library exchange: opportunities for cooperation.
Development of community information services”;
- Library – Community Information Center (CIC);
- Marketing of CIC services;
- Fund raising;
- Working with state and local government;
- Cooperation and library programs.
The
workshop participants received a copy of the handbook
"Library - Community Information Center:
Guidelines for planning and implementing", second
revised and enhanced edition, 2006. Click

US
internship for six Bulgarian librarians: ABLE project
has provided a grant for six colleagues from Bulgarian libraries
to visit partner libraries in Colorado and Iowa, and to attend
the Annual conference of the Public Libraries association in Boston
in March 2006.
December
2005
During
the official visit of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria
G. Parvanov to the USA, the First Ladies Mrs. Zoprka Parvanova
and Mrs. Laura Bush expressed their strong support for the joint
project and cooperation between the Bulgarian and the American
libraries. The ABLE project of ULISO, IRIS and Colorado Association
of Libraries has been evaluated as a very successful initiative.

Laura Bush donates books with autographs to
Mrs. Zorka Parvanova for creating an English language Library
for Children at the Sofia City Library.
